TEASER

Sometimes it takes a broken person to make you whole.

QUOTE

--Rory--
Today was the day I’d dreaded forever, the day I realized I was the source of Hindley’s pain and anguish.  It truly was me I had to protect her from, not all the others threatening to harm her.  The only way I could do that now was to leave her alone.  I bolted out of the elevator, running to my room as fast as I could, afraid I may actually vomit in the hallway before getting to the bathroom.  Losing Hindley wasn’t an option, but the choice wasn’t mine to make.  Suddenly, that one realization, the fact I was no longer in control, scared me more than anything I’d ever known.

AUTHOR INTERVIEW – Kay Manis

Welcome and thank you for taking time out of your schedule to talk with us.

For those who don’t know much about you can you tell us a little about yourself?

I was born and raised in Austin, Texas and I’ve never left, not even for college.  I attended the University of Texas at Austin…that’s how much I love it here!  I am married (almost 20 years) and have one teenage daughter.  We also have a five-pound Chihuahua named “Tiny.”

What inspired you to write your first book?

I’d have to say my daughter.  I’d had all these ideas in my head for so long and I’d keep telling her about them.  Then one day she said, “Mom, just write it.”  So I did!

What was the hardest part of writing your book?

One of the hardest parts believe it or not are naming characters – ha ha!  Most times, for me anyway, the plot unfolds right before me.  When it doesn’t, I know it’s time to step back and let the characters “simmer” in my head a little longer.

How many books will there be in the X-Treme Boys series?

Skater Boy and My Skater Boy are the first two.  They’re companion books, Book 2 is the conclusion to Hindley and Rory’s story.  Moto Boy and My Moto Boy are about a moto x rider and a character from Book 1.  The final books will be Snow Boy and My Snow Boy, obviously about a snowboarder.  The twist is, he’s a surfer, turned snowboarder, turned surfer…now turned back to snowboarding.  In total there will be six books in the X-Treme Boys Series.

When is the next book in the series expected to be out?

Moto Boy and My Moto Boy are due in early 2014.  I will release both together.  I can’t stand when authors leave you hanging with cliffhangers and make you wait months for the conclusion.  You don’t have to do that with any of the boys from my series!  The first books are cliffhangers, but the conclusion book will always be available.

Is there a hidden message in this series?

I don’t think there’s anything hidden, at least I hope not.  There are redeeming qualities and that’s what I want people to discover.  There is help and hope behind our pain.  That is the message I want people to walk away with, and I definitely don’t want it to be hidden.

Do you have plans for other series or projects?

Yes.  Actually, the first book in my next series has already been written.

Are the names of the characters in Skater Boy special to you?

Not to me personally, but Hindley’s name is from Wuthering Heights.

Can you tell us one of your favorite quotes from your book?

--RORY--

I lifted my head and looked into her glorious face, the glow from the moon outside illuminating her entire body.  “Do you have any idea how beautiful you are, Hindley?” I asked.  She wrapped her fingers in my hair, massaging my temples with her thumbs.

“With you, I feel beautiful,” she whispered.

Can you tell us any challenges in releasing your first book?

I my gosh, where do I start?  This world of indie publishing has been the BIGGEST roller coaster ride of my life.  I think my biggest challenge is staying positive, especially when things don’t work out the way you want them to.

How do you market your work, and what avenues have you found most successful?

I’m part of indie author groups on Facebook, I’m reaching out to bloggers and about to do my first Blog Tour.  I’m going to author book signings, reaching out to readers at various events.  Really it’s gaining visibility that’s important right now, however way you can do that.

Who designed your book cover?

Me!  I’m a graphic designer and publication designer by trade so that really helped out.  I really like it and think it turned out well.

If you could write with another author who would it be?

That’s too hard to answer.  There are some GREAT ones out there….I love Jay Crownover right now, so I’d have to say her.

Do you ever write naked?

No, I don’t think my family, my dog or the neighbors would appreciate the view!

What are your pet peeves?

When people walk on the wrong side of the aisle in the grocery stores.  I hate grocery stores in general, so pretty much anything that happens there pisses me off!

What is your ideal vacation?

Somewhere on a deserted white beach with tropical blue water and a cabana boy and a massage table not far away.
